Second-period goal flurry helps Avalanche beat Jets in Game 2, tie series

The Colorado Avalanche scored four unanswered goals in the second and third periods to rally for a 5-2 come-from-behind win over the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night at the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg.

The Avalanche tied the Western Conference first-round playoff series at 1-1. Game 3 is Friday at Ball Arena in Denver at 10 p.m. ET.

Colorado score three times in the final 5:44 of the second period to wipe out a 2-1 deficit. Artturi Lehkonen tied the game at 2-2, and Zach Parise, who is playing in his 19th and final NHL season at the age of 39, broke the tie with the game winner with 2:40 left in the middle period.

And with less than seven seconds remaining in the period, defenseman Josh Manson stepped out of the penalty box after serving a penalty, took a pass from Nathan MacKinnon and scored on a breakaway to make it 4-2.

Valeri Nichushkin added an empty-net goal with 57 seconds left in the game.

Lehkonen also had an assist, and Miles Wood also scored for the Avalanche. Defenseman Cale Makar had two assists, and Alexandar Georgiev made 28 saves

David Gustafsson and Mark Scheifele got the Jets goals, and Connor Hellebuyck stopped 27 shots. Hellebuyck is the favorite to win the Vezina Trophy this season but has allowed 10 goals in the first two games of the series.
